The VAST Project was among the 30 stakeholders that participated in the first Polifonia Hybrid Stakeholder Network Workshop which was held in hybrid mode at the Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Paris, France on 20 September 2022.

Konstantina Giouvanopoulou, of coordinator NCSR Demokritos, represented the VAST Project during the roundtable session “Computational Musicology and Knowledge Graphs (tunes, tonalities, facets, interlink, organs) where she briefly explained the project’s scope and initiatives as well as the progress and the outcomes that have been taking place so far.
During ontology-clinics, VAST connected with Polifonia stakeholders on the moral aspects and values conveyed in texts (a research area of VAST) and how these can be portrayed in music (Polifonia’s research area).

The meeting’s goal was to establish a clear mapping between the project’s first outcomes and the stakeholders’ goals and interests. At the same time, stakeholders had the opportunity to extend their network of contacts and provide insights into their projects and expertise.

Dr. Marco Berni, coordinator of European and special projects at partner Museo Galileo, presented VAST during his participation in the online workshop A European Collaborative cloud for Cultural Heritage in the frame of the European Research and Innovation Days on 28 & 29 September 2022.

Dr. Berni spoke on 29 September about the need for data aggregation at European level by means of automatic tools connecting heterogeneous data models. He also referred to the need for developing a long-term storage policy and mentioned that Museo Galileo participates, in various European projects dedicated to creating and managing shared data, such as in VAST thus highlighting the project’s scope and tools.

On the 21st and 22nd of September 2022, during the Kastelorizo Puzzle Festival, the VAST Project task force carried out, as announced, educational activities addressed to the island’s high school students.

During the first day at the local school, the VAST team motivated students to participate in brainstorming and discussing sessions and create mind maps regarding moral values.

The second day’s activities brought high school students in contact with values conveyed in Sophocles’ tragedy “Antigone.” Additionally, students participated in a workshop organized by NGO Cinemathesis, where they had the opportunity to film a scene, adopting different roles with the assistance of the actress Fotini Baxevani.

The days after, VAST Team had the opportunity for a constructive discussion with mathematician Pantazis Houlis, the inspirer and generator of the Kastelorizo Puzzle Museum. Mr. Pantazis Houlis talked about his inducement regarding the museum, his background, as well as his view on values and moral culture. Finally, he brought out the very interesting issue of how people feel and act when they cannot manage to solve a puzzle.
